This unusual large dark purple amethyst is carved into a scarab.  This oval amethyst has the Egyptian Revival Style shape of a scarab engraved on the top of this stone and ancient Egyptian symbols engraved on the underside. 

Ancient Egyptians adopted the scarab to symbolize their sun god. The beetle's ability to move larger items on the ground was considered a sign of strength.  The scarab would symbolize the sun being pulled across the sky.

This 20 carat amethyst is mounted in a bezel setting that is held by a three wire ring shank.  Two of the three wires split away to form decorative side swirls.  This eye-catching vintage ring is mounted in 10kt yellow gold.
